Artist Statement and Inspiration
My work is inspired by the alien-like, almost abstract forms of microorganisms captured under microscope. I hope to achieve an organic look to my work and to explore creating another realm sculpted by human hands that incites imagination. To bring the tiny microscopic world to large scale. I want to allow curiosity to lead the way in creation and interpretation.
I am also inspired by the naturally occurring geometric structures in nature, such as the completely symmetrical fractals that occur in succulents. I believe what nature is capable of creating is awe inspiring and can seem out of this world, and that is what I want others to contemplate when seeing my sculpture in the setting of nature.
Two artists that I am currently obsessed with are Ernst Haeckel for his illustrations from the mid 1800’s of Oceanic microscopic organisms called Radiolarians, and Dale Chihuly for his outdoor large scale glass installations.
